SUBJECTS IN CALLAHAN’S SENTENCES: TYPES AND ROLES

Hendro Prasetianto

Abstract

This article treats the types and roles of subjects in Callahan’s sentences from semantico-syntactic view. Twenty-five sentences were randomly selected and assumed as representatives. The analysis shows that noun phrases and nouns constitute subject types in addition to the other five. Besides, the subjects hold five kinds of roles, of which themes are of high frequency of occurrence. These findings are of great significance for the teaching of English in semesters 1, 3, 6 at YCTM.

Key words: subjects, types, roles, Callahan
